FAQ - Frequently Asked Questions
Questions? We've got answers.
If you're here reading FAQs, you're probably doing that very normal human thing where you want to know what you're getting into before you get into it. Smart. We've answered the most common questions below, but if yours isn't here, just reach out. No question is too small, weird, or "should I already know this?" We’ve got you.
How much does therapy cost? You'll find session fees listed clearly on the booking page: no hidden costs or awkward conversations about money. Choose what works for you. Some longer or specialised sessions may be priced a little differently, and that'll be shown upfront too.
Do you take the Mental Health Plan Medicare rebate? Medicare rebates aren't available for counselling, however you'll often end up paying the same amount out of pocket as you would with a Mental Health Care Plan. With a psychologist: $250 for a 50-minute session, minus the $96.65 Medicare rebate = $153.35 out of pocket. With us: $120–$140 for a full 60-minute session = $120–$140 out of pocket. So you're paying a similar amount (sometimes less), and getting more time in the room.
How long will I be in therapy? Honestly? It depends on you. Some people find what they need in just a handful of sessions. Others stay longer because it feels helpful. We'll check in regularly about what's working and what you need, so you're never locked into something that doesn't fit your life or needs.
Do I have to talk about everything that's happened to me? Not at all. You're always in the driver's seat. Therapy isn't about dragging up every painful memory. It's about creating a space where you feel safe enough to share what matters, when you're ready. We'll move at your pace, always.
Is this counselling right for me? If you're reading this and wondering whether you "qualify" or if your struggles are "big enough," that probably means you could benefit from support. Trauma is any unresolved stress from any point in your life, counselling isn't only for crisis moments. It's for soothing the intensity of feeling stuck, overwhelmed, lost, curious, or ready for change. Whether you're dealing with something specific or simply know something feels off, you're welcome here.
Is what I say kept private? Yes, completely. The only time confidentiality is broken is if there's a serious risk to you or someone else, and that's a legal requirement, not a choice. Otherwise, what you share stays between us.
Do I need a diagnosis to come to counselling? Not at all. You don't need a label or a formal diagnosis. Counselling is for anyone navigating life's ups and downs, whether that's anxiety, relationships, burnout, or feeling stuck. You're welcome exactly as you are.
Can I do sessions online? Absolutely. We offer online sessions across Australia, so you can choose what feels most comfortable and accessible for you, whether that's from your couch or by the beach.
What if I'm really nervous about starting? That's so normal. Most people feel a bit nervous before their first session. The space is relaxed, non-judgemental, and shaped around what feels okay for you. There's no pressure to have it all figured out.
How do I know which counsellor to work with? Great question. Head over to our team page where you'll find a bit about each counsellor, what they specialise in, and how they work. Sometimes you'll just get a gut feeling about who might be a good fit. If you're still unsure, reach out and we can help match you with someone who feels right for what you're going through.
What kinds of things can counselling help with? All sorts: anxiety, relationship struggles, stress, grief, burnout, work pressures, parenting challenges, trauma, low confidence, setting boundaries, or just feeling lost about where life's heading. If it's weighing on you, it's worth talking about.
How do I book a session? Just head to the online booking form, choose a time and counsellor that suits you, and you'll get a confirmation with all the details. It's straightforward and quick.
What happens if I need to cancel? Life happens, we get it. Please give at least 24 hours' notice so the session can be offered to someone else. Late cancellations incur the fee, which helps keep things fair and sustainable for everyone.
